Departemen Statistika

Bachelor of Statistics

History

The Statistics Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), was originally established as the Department of Statistics. The department began its operations in the 1963/1964 academic year, following the earlier establishment of the Departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, and Pharmacy. Initially, the Department of Statistics operated under the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FIPPA). FIPPA-UNPAD entrusted the formation of the Department of Statistics to Drs. Sudjana, M.A. (later Prof. Dr. Sudjana, M.A., M.Sc.), who served as the initiator. The department was officially established through Rector’s Decree No. 41/Kep./UNPAD/63, dated October 3, 1963. In line with the statute of Universitas Padjadjaran  as a State-Owned Legal Entity under Government Regulation No. 51/2015, UNPAD has been granted autonomy in both academic and non-academic matters, particularly in the establishment of new study programs. To address the growing demand for statistical expertise and to enhance statistical competencies and education levels in Indonesia, the Master’s Program in Applied Statistics (S-2) was established in 2007 through Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 117/D/T/2007, dated January 18, 2007. On February 15, 2018, with the support of the Indonesian Actuaries Association (PAI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and alumni, the Actuarial Science specialization was formally established as the Bachelor of Actuarial Science Study Program within the Statistics Department, FMIPA UNPAD. This program was officially recognized through Rector’s Decree No. 113/UN6.RKT/Kep/HK/2018.

As the department continues to evolve, supported by its increasing potential, academic environment, and the commitment of its academic community, the Department of Statistics has become one of the most sought-after programs at Universitas Padjadjaran. The department currently offers three educational programs:

  1. Bachelor’s in Statistics  (S1); Accredited as “Excellent” by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT)
  2. Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science (S1); Accredited as “Good” by BAN-PT
  3. Master’s in Applied Statistics (S2); Accredited as “Excellent” by BAN-PT

The Department of Statistics aims to develop statistics and its applications across various fields to meet the demands of stakeholders and align with advancements in science and technology. To optimize monitoring and evaluation processes, courses are categorized into areas of expertise (KBK), which include: (1) Actuarial Science; (2) Big Data Analysis;  (3) Flexible Statistical Modeling; (4) Quality Control; (5) Epidemiological Research; (6) Survey Research Methodology; (7) Sociometrics and Time Series.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics has 23 faculty members with the following educational qualifications: 14 hold doctoral degrees (including one professor), and 9 hold master’s degrees (with 3 currently pursuing doctoral studies both domestically and abroad). To support administrative activities, the Department of Statistics is assisted by 11 staff members serving as coordinators, academic staff, general affairs and equipment personnel, technicians, and cleaning staff.
