Welcome to
Department of Statistics

Department of Statistics (Statistics Study Program) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Padjadjaran has been established since 1963, initiated by Prof. Dr. Sudjana, M.A., M.Sc. Since its inception until March 31, 2014, it was the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, after March 2014 it changed/switched to the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran.

The Department of Statistics from the beginning of its establishment until 2018 has had 3 study programs, namely the S1 Statistics Study Program, the S2 Applied Statistics Study Program and the S1 Actuarial Science. Finally, on December 21, 2022 the S1 Statistics Study Program obtained Superior accreditation. On May 18, 2021 the S1 Actuarial Science Study Program obtained Good accreditation. On December 21, 2022 the Master of Applied Statistics Study Program obtained Superior accreditation.

Our research is divided into 7 areas of study with the following objectives:

  1. Actuarial
    • Develop mathematical models to manage risks in insurance, finance, and investment.
    • Provide statistical-based solutions for better risk management.
    • Support strategic decision-making through probability calculations and long-term financial projections.
  2. Big Data Analysis
    • Process and analyze data at scale to gain relevant and actionable insights.
    • Develop new techniques and algorithms for big data management.
    • Apply data analysis in areas such as healthcare, business, environment and technology.
  3. Flexible Statistical Modeling
    • Develop flexible and adaptive statistical models for different types of data and problems.
    • Provides tools to analyze data with complex or non-linear structures.
    • Expanding the application of statistics to new fields through more customized models.
  4. Quality Control
    • Develop methods to ensure and improve the quality of products, processes or services.
    • Apply statistical techniques to monitor and improve performance in industries and organizations.
    • Reduce variability and improve efficiency through a data-driven approach.
  5. Research Epidemiologi
    • Understand the pattern, distribution and determinants of disease in populations.
    • Develop methods to prevent and control the spread of disease.
    • Provide scientific evidence for public health policy.
  6. Survey research methodology
    • Develop and refine survey methods to obtain accurate and reliable data.
    • Examining bias in surveys and how to overcome it.
    • Improve survey design, conduct and analysis for various research areas.
  7. Sociometrics and Time Series
    • Sociometrics: Analyzes social relationships and interaction patterns between individuals within a group or community.
    • Time Series: Develop methods to analyze temporal data to understand patterns, trends, and future predictions.
    • Integrate both fields to understand social dynamics that change over time.

The objectives of each group of study areas demonstrate the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and the application of quantitative methods in various research areas to provide innovative and relevant solutions in terms of education and community service.

Internationalization activities at the Department of Statistics include team teaching, master thesis supervision, and research collaboration with lecturers from various countries. In addition, course exchanges and joint courses with foreign universities are also our goals.

We transform data into solutions to achieve our Vision of World Reputation and Impact on Society. Welcome to the Department of Statistics, Universitas Padjadjaran.
